COMMUNITY AWARDS

The purpose of these awards is to recognise a person or team of people in geographical and scientific exploration, adventure exploration, adventure athletic pursuits, photographers, conservationists, clinicians and humanitarians pushing the boundaries of exploration and adventure.

Adventurer of the Year

Eligibility:

  • The nominated person must be 16 years or older at the time of the award date.

  • The adventure must have taken place within the 12 months prior to nomination.

  • The adventure was not part of a commercial adventure.

 

Selection criteria (100-200 words per section):

  1. This award is not bound by one discipline however the adventure-based discipline will need to be named, defined and explained (the award will consider all adventure-based elements that includes but not limited to, climbing, paddling, trekking, high lining, swimming, cycling (off or on road), crossing, paragliding, kayaking, flying, human power or machine power), as long as the discipline pushes the boundaries of adventure.

  2. This award is not bound by physical geography. The discipline can have occurred anywhere within the wilds of earth including both natural and artificial environments.

  3. Special consideration will be given to discipline that consider environmental impact strategies to reduce negative impact.

Explorer of the Year

The resolution of the award is to recognise a male, female or a team of explorers undertaking scientific field research, and measure their engagement in the fields of explorations.

Eligibility:

  • The nominated person/s must be 16 years or older at the time of the award date.

  • The nomination must have undertaken a scientific research themed expedition within the 12 months prior to nomination.

  • The data collected was subject to a research project.

 

Selection criteria (100-200 words per section):

  1. This award is not bound by one scientific discipline.

  2. This award is not bound by physical geography. The discipline can have occurred anywhere within the wilds of earth including both natural and artificial environments.

  3. Special consideration will be given to discipline that consider environmental impact strategies to reduce negative impact.

Young Adventurer of the Year

Eligibility:

  • The nominated person must be under 24 years old at the time of the award date.

  • The adventure must have taken place within the 12 months prior to nomination.

  • The adventure was not part of a commercial adventure.

 

Selection criteria (100-200 words per section):

  1. This award is not bound by one discipline however the adventure-based discipline will need to be named, defined and explained (the award will consider all adventure-based elements that includes but not limited to, climbing, paddling, trekking, high lining, swimming, cycling (off or on road), crossing, paragliding, kayaking, flying, human power or machine power), as long as the discipline pushes the boundaries of adventure.

Award Nominations:

To nominate an individual or team for the Community Awards please email explore@adexguild.org with the following:

  1. Your name, phone number and email address

  2. Your nominees name, phone number and email address

  3. Resume of nominee; including references

  4. A statement detailing in your own words on why believe your nominee should be awarded

  5. A completed selection criteria

  6. An image of your nominee doing what he/she does best

  7. Any further supporting documents i.e. Media coverage, previous awards

  8. (MAX email size 10MB. Please do not send more than 5 attachments)

Terms and Conditions

The awards are designed to recognise people or teams of people who have given valuable service over an extended period to the advancement of both adventure and exploration.

Awards are considered by the AEG advisory committee ad their decision will be final.

Although conflicts of interest exist, they are not necessarily negative. For this reason, all nominations will be considered however any conflicts of interest will be provided in writing.

Self-nominations are acceptable.

All nominated activities must have occurred with the 12 months prior to the award.

All nominees will be contacted by AEG and advised of their nomination.

To accept a nomination, a nominee will agree to the AEG terms of use, privacy policy and social media policy. Furthermore, winners will be required to provide a short biography and no less than pictures for usage of AEG on its own marketing material and social media.

Winners will be announced annually on social media and www.adexguild.org
